Monthly News for Parents

Hello Hornet Families,

Wow how time flies! What an awesome 1st month of school we have had! Teaching and learning is in full swing. Students have done an excellent job of getting back into the swing of things with classroom routines and procedures that support an effective learning environment. We continue to build classroom communities setting clear expectations of what it means to be a HERO.

O-On task

We are also implementing a new school-wide behavior support plan called B.I.S.T (Behavior Intervention Support Team).  The purpose of the B.I.S.T. model is to help bring about lasting changes in student’s attitudes towards themselves and others around them so that they can be productive students; In control of their own behavior, and find acceptable solutions to their problems.

We will focus on the three Goals for life:

I can make good choices even when I am mad.

I can be okay even when others are not.

I can do something even if I don’t want to (or it’s hard).

Students are allowed inside the building no earlier than 8:30. Students arriving at 8:30 are expected to have a reading book in their backpack. Students will read from 8:30-8:40. Students are permitted to go to class at 8:40. For everyone’s safety please do not drop off students before 8:30, there are no staff members on duty before this time.

Our breakfast program takes place between 8:40-9:00. Students must be present during this time in order to receive breakfast. Daily instruction begins promptly at 9:00, therefore, all breakfast items must be disposed of and areas cleaned so instruction can begin at 9:00.

Our school day begins at 9:00, if your child arrives after 9:00 they are considered tardy and they must be signed-in at the office by an adult. If your child arrives after 9:00, they will not be able to receive breakfast. Breakfast is served from 8:40-9:00. Also, please note early dismissal counts as a tardy as well, so if you pick your child up before 3:30 it will count against their attendance.

Dismissal is a critical time of the day, we have to ensure that all of our students arrive home safely and on time. In order to maintain a smooth process, we are asking that any dismissal changes be made before 12:00. Changing dismissal routines can be confusing for children as well as the adults. To ensure that miscommunications are limited, we need all changes made before 12:00. Also, if you wish to pick your child up early, they must be picked-up before 3:30. Students will not be dismissed between the times of 3:30-4:00.

Students are in the process of taking their fall MAP test, be sure to ask them about their score and setting growth goals for the school year.

Thank you for your continued support!
